You may find better drivers, but be very wary of some of the sites offering them. Write down what the output from this command is then Google it on the Internet. If you know someone with a Linux PC then plug in your USB adaptor and get them to run the command "lsusb". I agree with JackD about cheap interfaces. GiPSy will check them all and then download from the right one. Select the "Connection with GPS" tab and then tick the boxes for all the interfaces that GiPSy can see. Plug in your GPS via the USB-Serial and then hit the refresh to see if there are any new COM ports.Īlternatively, if you have Firefox, load GiPSy as an add on. I can highly recommend getting a better quality adapter and stay away from the cheap ebay stuff. So apparently there is a big difference on these adapters. GARMIN USB TO RS232 CONVERTER CABLE DRIVER DRIVERSI found a better quality, but also more expensive USB to Serial adapter but it worked right out of the box, after installing the drivers of course. After 2 days of frustration I simply gave up. I had problems with one of those cheap adapter too, at first the cable wouldn't let me open a port, then I uninstalled the drivers and re-installed them, then it would let me open a port but still no communication.
